We're Entering a “Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don't” Generation
I don't know if it's social media, everybody having access to everybody, algorithms rewarding negativity, or if people are just bored as fuck.
But have y'all noticed?
People are becoming INSUFFERABLE. 😂
And I'm not even talking about people disagreeing.
Disagreement is normal.
I'm talking about this weird mindset where somebody can post literally anything and people immediately start searching for the negative angle.
Not:
“That's interesting.”
Not:
“I wonder why they did it that way.”
Not even:
“That's not how I would've done it.”
It's almost like:
“Alright, let me find what's wrong with this shit.”
😂
And the more I watch it, the more I realize we're entering a serious damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't generation.
AI Is the Perfect Example
I just talked about this in my last blog.
Use AI?
“You're lazy.”
Don't use AI?
“Why are you wasting time doing that manually?”
Use AI to help design something?
“That's not real creativity.”
Spend three weeks designing it yourself?
“You could've done this in two hours with AI.”
😂😂😂
What the FUCK do y'all want?
And that's why I've stopped looking at the AI argument as something that needs a universal answer.
You wanna use AI? Use that shit.
You don't?
Then don't.
Problem solved.
Nobody needs to hold a fucking congressional hearing every time somebody opens ChatGPT.
But This Isn't Really About AI
AI is just the newest example.
This mentality is everywhere.
Post your accomplishments?
You're bragging.
Don't post them?
“What does this person even do?”
Show your money?
You're trying too hard.
Don't show your money?
People question whether you actually have any.
Work constantly?
You need a life.
Take some time off?
You're lazy.
Build publicly?
You're attention-seeking.
Build privately?
You're secretive.
Be confident?
Ego.
Be humble?
People think they can play with you.
Speak your mind?
You're aggressive.
Stay quiet?
“Why didn't you say anything?”
BRO. 😂
At some point you have to realize:
There is no combination of decisions that makes everybody shut the fuck up.
It doesn't exist.
Social Media Made Everybody a Fucking Inspector
This is probably the strangest part to me.
Somebody posts something completely harmless and people start examining that shit like they're reviewing evidence for the FBI.
Zoom in.
Pause.
Check the background.
Analyze the wording.
Investigate the profile picture.
Find one tiny detail.
GOTCHA!
😂😂😂
Congratulations, Detective.
And I'm not saying people shouldn't question things.
They absolutely should.
But there's a difference between critical thinking and actively looking for reasons to dislike everything you see.
That second one seems exhausting as hell.
Some people don't consume content anymore.
They investigate it for something to be mad about.
Everybody Has an Opinion
And everybody is apparently an expert now too.
Marketing expert.
Financial advisor.
Relationship counselor.
AI engineer.
Attorney.
Business consultant.
Brand strategist.
Psychologist.
😂
Sometimes all within the same comment section.
You can post something about marketing and somebody who has never sold shit will explain why your marketing strategy doesn't work.
Post something about building a business and somebody who's never built one will explain exactly what you're doing wrong.
And God forbid something actually works.
They'll explain why it shouldn't have worked.
That's when you've reached expert-level internet. 😂
You Cannot Win With Everybody
And I think accepting that is actually freeing.
Because once you realize there's no winning?
You can stop fucking competing.
I'm not trying to construct my life around avoiding somebody else's criticism.
That's impossible.
There are billions of people on this planet.
Somebody somewhere is going to think whatever you're doing is stupid.
Okay.
Now what?
Are you going to change directions every time somebody doesn't approve?
Because if you do, you're going to spend your entire life driving in circles.
This Is Why You Need Tunnel Vision
I've talked about tunnel vision before, but I think it's becoming more important.
You need to know:
What do YOU want?
What are YOU trying to build?
What do YOU actually believe?
What tools work for YOU?
What lifestyle makes YOU happy?
What direction makes sense for YOUR business?
Then lock the fuck in.
Take useful feedback.
Listen to people who actually know something you don't.
Be coachable.
Change your mind when new information proves you wrong.
But stop treating every random opinion as an instruction.
Those are two completely different things.
Do What the Fuck You Want
Seriously.
Within reason, obviously. 😂
You wanna use AI?
Use AI.
You prefer doing everything manually?
Do that.
You want to post your entire journey?
Post it.
You want to disappear for six months and build privately?
Disappear.
You want a traditional career?
Go get one.
You want to start businesses?
Build them.
You want your website clean and professional?
Make it clean.
You want that motherfucker flying sideways with animations everywhere?
Have fun. 😂
People are going to have something to say regardless.
So you might as well at least make sure you're enjoying the decision they're complaining about.
Let People Exhaust Themselves
This might be the best part.
You don't actually have to respond to everything.
Somebody can write four paragraphs about why they hate what you're doing.
Cool.
They spent 15 minutes writing it.
You spent zero minutes caring.
Who really lost time there? 😂
Let people argue.
Let them debate.
Let them announce that something you're using is stupid.
Let them tell everybody how they would've done it.
Then quietly continue doing whatever the fuck you were doing.
People eventually exhaust themselves when they realize their opinion isn't controlling your behavior.
This Generation Needs to Learn How to Let People Live
Everything doesn't require commentary.
Everything doesn't need a side.
Everything doesn't need an investigation.
Everything somebody enjoys doesn't need you standing underneath it explaining why you personally don't enjoy it.
Sometimes you can literally just think:
“Not for me.”
And keep scrolling.
Revolutionary concept, apparently. 😂
Because right now, we're creating an environment where everybody is so hyper-opinionated that nobody can fucking breathe without somebody reviewing the technique.
And I'm not interested in living like that.
I'll listen when something makes sense.
I'll take good advice.
I'll learn from people smarter than me.
I'll change when I believe I need to change.
But I'm not building my life around avoiding criticism from people who were probably going to find something to complain about anyway.
Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.
Cool.
Then I'm doing what the fuck I want.
You should probably do the same.
