This is actually something I stopped doing a long time ago.

On my personal social media, I'll post something and basically get the fuck off. 😂

I don't sit there refreshing likes.

I don't study who watched my story.

I don't check whether a specific person saw something.

I don't notice when somebody who normally watches suddenly doesn't.

And I damn sure don't have a mental spreadsheet of who's supporting what.

Now, business accounts are completely different.

We study the hell out of those metrics.

Reach, engagement, clicks, conversions, watch time—that's data. That information can actually help me make better business decisions.

But my personal page?

Nah.

And there's actually a reason I stopped paying attention.

I Realized How Much Meaning We Give Meaningless Shit

At some point, I realized checking that stuff starts making you interpret things that might not even mean anything.

“Why did they watch but didn't like it?”

“They normally watch my story immediately.”

“Why didn't they view this one?”

“They unfollowed me?”

“They liked THAT person's post though…”

Man.

Who gives a fuck? 😂

Maybe they intentionally didn't like it.

Maybe they did.

Maybe they're busy.

Maybe Instagram didn't show it to them.

Maybe they secretly hate you.

Maybe they secretly love you.

I don't know.

And eventually I realized something even better:

I don't need to know.

Then I Realized It Makes Social Media Games Almost Useless Against Me

This was the funny unintended benefit.

There are absolutely people who use social media behavior to communicate without communicating.

They'll intentionally stop watching something.

Watch something but purposely not like it.

Post something hoping one particular person sees it.

Unfollow somebody to get a reaction.

Follow somebody else to get a reaction.

Disappear hoping somebody notices they disappeared.

And that's cool.

Except there's one small problem if you're trying it with me:

I probably didn't fucking notice. 😂

You can't really play a social media mind game with somebody who isn't watching the scoreboard.

That's one of the biggest reasons I've kept this habit.

If You Want Me to Know Something, Tell Me

I'm big on communication.

If you're mad at me?

Tell me.

If you disagree with something?

Tell me.

If something bothered you?

Tell me.

If you fuck with something I'm doing?

Tell me that too.

But expecting me to decode your Instagram activity like I'm investigating a murder scene?

We're going to be waiting a while. 😂

I'm probably somewhere working.

It Also Removes the Need for Validation

There's another side to it.

When you constantly check engagement on your personal page, it's really easy to subconsciously start letting numbers determine how you feel about what you posted.

100 likes?

“Oh yeah, they fucked with this.”

20 likes?

“Damn, maybe I shouldn't have posted that.”

Why?

If I liked it enough to post it five minutes ago, why should a number suddenly change that?

That's another freedom that comes with posting and leaving.

I already decided I liked it.

That's enough.

I'm Not Saying I Literally Never Look

Obviously I'm going to see notifications sometimes.

I'll respond to people.

I'll notice engagement.

I'm not pretending I throw my phone into the ocean after every Instagram post. 😂

The difference is I'm not monitoring it.

There's no emotional investment in figuring out exactly who did or didn't interact with something.

That's the habit I got rid of.

And I don't miss it.

Post It and Go Live

Social media became way more enjoyable for me once I stopped treating every interaction like information I needed to analyze.

I post.

I might interact for a little bit.

Then I go do something else.

Meanwhile, if somebody somewhere is strategically deciding whether they should watch my story at 3:17 PM or wait until 8:42 so they don't look too interested…

God bless them. 😂

Because I promise you I'm not calculating any of that shit.

And yeah, I know.

I'm a different fucking breed when it comes to this.

Most people could never phase me with social media games because I'm already ahead of the game by refusing to play it.

You can't manipulate somebody with something they're not monitoring in the first place.
